El Valle de Anton - Welcome to the Sloths
Our week in Playa Venao was awesome! Now it was time to move to one more place in Panama, before we travel to Columbia. Yes, we changed our route slightly, because Columbia, so everybody told us, is such a beautiful country, with so much variety! So yes, we go there instead of Ecuador :) Anyway, now we are in El Valle de Anton, and by we I mean me, Hans and Juana, our friend from Playa Venao wo spontaneously decided to join us - yaaaay!
So we stayed one night at Casa Mariposa - this one got recommended to us by two German girl who we met in San Blas. So we booked ourselves a night (unfortunately they didn't have a room for 2 nights) and also it was no problem to tell them we were 1 person more - great! Arriving there, the house was beautiful, with a huge garden, a small river...
... aaaaand: SLOTHS! Let's see some pictures, they can't even describe how cute they are:
It was soooo cool hanging out with them! The owners told us a lot about their behaviour: They sleep around 20 hours/day, they get stressed easily, so they can't be in contact with foreign people too much, they just had a babyyyy, and they are loners - so they don't usually hang out together. Well, those are different since they have been liing with this couple for some years. Still, they are more than cute and adorable and I wish I could take them hooome!
Our first and only full day was spent in the nature - which is totally recommended! There are plenty of options for hiking in the mountains, some more some less advanced. One of the main "attractions" is La India dormida - the sleeping princess. Legend has it that she went up the mountains to fall into a forever sleep, because her father wouldn't let her be with the guy she loved. So now, the mountains are shaped like a sleeping woman. We decided to go on that hike, since we were told it would take us about 3 hours.
The nature was incredibly beautiful! We hiked through the jungle (AMAZING!) and saw pleny of different animals, such as snakes. Also, there was a huge waterfall in the middle if the jungle - of course we jumped inside on our way down ;)
The hike was so exhausting... it was hot, humid and the mountain was actually higher than expected. Also, the pathway wasn't really well, full of rocks and slippery ground, but I mean what do you expect in the middle of nowhere in Panama? Anyway, it was worth it because the view from the top was priceless!
Unfortunately, we had to separate from Juana today :( While we travelled to Columbia, she returned to Panama and home at the end of the week. We all were so sad, because as many people as you meet during travels, it's not many that you get really close to. We had the best 10 days with you Juanita, the deepest talks, the funniest nights, the best adventures... See you soon! :)
